Treatment of knee osteoarthritis with total knee arthroplasty:A report of 22 cases

  • Objective To evaluate the clinical effect of total knee arthroplasty(TKA) on knee osteoarthritis(KOA). Methods Twenty-two KOA patients who underwent TKA were included in this study.The score was 50-60,40-50 and 30-40,respectively,for 2,22 and 4 knees according to the hospital special surgery(HSS) system.The patients were followed up for an average period of 11 months. Results The operation was successful in 22 patients with no infection and loose of the joint.The outcome was excellent,good and fair,respectively,in 14,6 and 2 patients according to the HSS scoring criteria. Conclusion TKA can effectively alleviate the pain of knee due to KOA and improve the knee function.Its short term therapeutic effect on KOA is satisfactory.
