Fetal liver transplantation （FLT） and interstitial pneumonia: a case report and a breif review of literature

A male patient with acute lymphocytic leukemia was transplanted with fetal liver cells following a conditioning regimen of CTX 60mg/kg/d, daunorubicin 30mg/d for two days, and a total body irradiation 550rad （8rad/min）. Chromosome with lymphocytic XX karyotype of the fetal donor appeared in 5.7% of marrow metaphases 11 days after fransplantation. Nonpersistent engrafting was achieved. Hematopoietic recovery of bone marrow was observed 40 days thereafter. In addition to lowgrade fever, the patient’s general condition was otherwise much improved. But progressiving dyspnea since started the fifty-first day after operation and the patient died of interstitial pneumonia on the 65th day. Literature was reviewed in relation to problems of interstitial pneumonia in bone marrow transplantation and FLT.
