Clinical analysis of carcinoid tumors in 106 patients

  • Objective: To study carcinoid tumor distribution change and clinical characteristic.Methods: 106 operated patients with carcinoid tumors were analyzed retrospectively.Results: The lung was the most common site of carcinoid tumor(56.6%),the next were rectum(18.9%),stomach(10.4%) and thymus gland(4.7%).36.8% patients had regional lymph node metastasis and 7.5% patients had distant metastasis.Carcinoid syndrome occurred for 4.7% patients and multiple primary carcinoma occurred for 3.8% patients. Resection rate of the primary tumor was 90.1%.Conclusion: The lung is the most common site of carcinoid tumor. Carcinoid syndrome is quite umcommon,which usually occurs in lung carcinoid tumor patients. Resection rate of the carcinoid tumor is high and the prognosis is good .
