Transcatheter closure of patent ductus arteriosus using amplatzer duct device

Objective: To evaluate the immediate and short term results of transcatheter closure of patent ductus arteriosus （PDA） using Amplatzer duct device. Methods: From June 1998 to October 1999, 32 patients with PDA were closured by transcatheter with Amplatzer duct device. Two of them had previous surgical ligation with clinically evident recanalization. Results: According to the classification adopted by Krichenko 28 patients had PDA of type A, 2 of type C and 2 of type E. The mean PDA diameter at its narrowest segment was 4.0±1.3 mm （ranged from 1.5 to 8.0 ）mm. 6 patients had normal pulmonary pressure. slight pulmonary pressure for 23 patients, moderate pulmonary pressure for 3 patients. The device was successfully placed in the PDA in all patients. No other complications were found. Conclusion: Transcatheter closure of PDA is a safe and effective nonsurgical method in the closure of PDA with 2 mm diameter up to 8 mm（3/32 cases）using Amplatzer duct device.
