Epithelial cells activation by co-culture with eosinophils to release IL-6

Objective:To investigate the effect of human epithelial cells activation by co-culture with human eosinophils on interleukin（IL）-6 expression.Methods:Normal and 1% paraformaldehyde fixed eosinophils were co-cultured with epithelial cells（BEAS-2B cells） respectively;IL-6 gene expression in BEAS-2B cells was evaluated by RT-PCR and IL-6 protein in culture supernatant was determined by flow cytometry with CBA kit.Results:The interaction of eosinophils and BEAS-2B cells was found to up-regulate IL-6 gene expression in BEAS-2B cells and increase IL-6 release in co-culture supernatant.Conclusion:Above results showed that eosinophils can activate epithelial cells to release IL-6.
