Analysis of the injury status on 92 evacuated brain trauma patients in Wenchuan earthquake

Objective: Investigation was conducted on injury feature of the evacuated brain trauma patients in wenchuan earthquake.Methods: 92 hospitalized patients within 20 post-earthquake days were investigated with emphasis on injury severity,cause,pre-hospital time and treatment given,and the outcome at neurosurgery department in General Hospital of Chengdu Military District.Results: Among the 92 patients,78 cases were with mild or moderate brain injury and 14 cases with severe intracranial trauma;and 49 cases combined with bone fracture and 21 cases with crushing syndrome.78 patients have been discharged by June 12,（72 patients were good recovery,5 moderately disabled and 1 severely deficient）.11 patients were still in hospital for further treatment.3 patients died in hospital.Conclusion: long pre-hospital time and poor basic medical treatment given,low ratio of severe craniocerebral injury and high percentage of combined crush syndrome and limb fracture are still the very characteristics evacuated brain trauma victims.
