Effects of stern-gold attachment and magnetic attachment on mandible over-denture retention: A comparative study

  • Objective: To compare the clinical effects of stern-gold attachment and magnetic attachment on mandible over-denture retention. Methods: Stern-gold attachment and magnetic attachment were respectively applied to patients who adapted to mandible complete over-denture. Masticatory efficiency, retention strength and clinical effects were evaluated between the two kinds of over-denture. Results: No significant difference was observed in masticatory efficiency and retention strength between the two groups(P>0.05).Over 90% patients felt comfortable, aesthetic and stable, but gingivitis occurred in two patients with magnetic attachment. Conclusion: Stern-gold attachment is more suitable for mandible over-denture than magnetic attachment.
