Development of the middle cerebralartery occlusion model and behavioral assessment improvement

Objective: To establish a more simple,more reliable model of focal cerebral ischemia in Sprague-Dawley rats and to improve the old behavioral assessment.Methods: The focal cerebral ischemia model in Sprague-Dawley rats were improved by the method of Zealonga and Koizum.Then the reliability of this model was evaluated with a bettered examination of neurological method.Results: 90 minutes after MCAO,rats showed neurologincal functional obstacle.Conclusion: The improved model is simple,reliable,minor trauma and stable.It is advisable to use this experimental animal model to study focal cerebral ischemia.
