Effect of alpha brain wave bio-feedback therapy on anxiety state of cancer patients

Objective: To study the novel treatment modalities for anxiety state of cancer patients. Methods: From March 2006 to September 2007,self rating scale was applied in the diagnosis of anxiety-state in 79 cancer patients out of 214 in-patients.The 79 cancer patients were divided into treatment group（n=41）and control group（n=38）.Patients in treatment group received mental nursing and alpha brain wave bio-feedback therapy,patients in control group received only routine mental nursing.The levels of anxiety state were compared before and after treatment. Results: The anxiety state was much better in patients of the treatment group than in those of the control group after treatment（P＜0.01）.Alpha brain wave bio-feedback therapy significantly improved the anxiety state of cancer patients compared with routine mental nursing（P＜0.01）. Conclusion: Anxiety state of cancer patients affects the quality of life of cancer patients and improvement of the disease. Clinical nurse must pay more attention to mental nursing and alpha brain wave bio-feedback therapy for the anxiety state of cancer patients.
