Study of Masson Pine pollen on lipid metabolism in the piglet model

  • Objective: To observe the effects of Masson Pine pollen on lipid metabolism in the piglet model. Methods: Nine male-castrated growing piglets(bodyweight was 36±3kg) were divided into three groups randomly: basic diet group, wheat bran additive(3.5%) group and pollen additive(3.5%) group. The pigs were housed in metabolic cages individually. After one-week feeding basic diet, then given different diets to observe lipid metabolism for two experimental periods, each period was 14 days. The urine and feces samples were collected, and lipid metabolism parameters were measured. Results: The fecal triglyceride content of pollen group was the highest and had significant statistic difference with other two groups, the daily fecal triglyceride excretion amount was 3.5 times of bran group and 3 times of basic diet group; The cholesterol content of pollen group was the highest too,the daily excretion amount was 735 mg which was 1.54 times of bran group,1.7 times of basic diet group; The fecal total fat acid content of pollen group was 15.78 mg/g,the basic diet group was 9.07 mg/g and bran group was(8.81 mg/g).The daily fecal fat acid excretion amount of pollen group was 1 506 mg,basic diet and bran group were 535 mg and 560mg respectively.Fecal bile acids excretion amount of pollen group was higher than other two groups, and had statistic difference with bran group. Conclusion: Addition of 3.5% Masson Pine pollen significantly increased the fecal triglyceride, cholesterol and total fat acids excretion amount of piglets, and accelerate the bile acids excretion. It has important role in regulation of energy metabolism, lipid metabolism and inhibition of fat absorption.
