Nephron sparing surgery for small renal cell carcinoma

Objective To investigate the clinical effect of nephron sparing surgery on small renal cell carcinoma. Methods Nephron sparing surgery for small renal cell carcinoma was performed in 47 patients（31 males and 16 females;mean age 48 years）.The tumor ranged 0.8-3.0cm in diameter with a mean diameter of 2.3cm.Pathological examination showed a clear cell carcinoma in 38 patients,a chromophobe carcinoma in 6 patients,a papillary cell carcinoma in 2 patients and a cystic renal carcinoma in 1 patient,respectively.After operation,all the patients underwent regular abdominal CT,ultrasound,urine test and renal function examination. Results The operation was successful in all the 47 patients and 45 patients were followed up.The mean follow-up time was 17 months.During the follow-up,the 45 patients had no tumor recurrence. Conclusion Nephron sparing surgery is a safe and effective procedure for small renal cell carcinoma.
