The etiology and pathogenesis of CNS diseases are complex, and the current effective interventions are limited. In recent years, proanthocyanidin for central nervous injury in the clearance of free radicals, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory and anti-apoptotic protective effect has drawn much attention, and it has been used in a variety of central nervous injury related experimental and clinical research, including neurodegenerative diseases, chemical drugs caused by nerve injury, stress caused by nerve injury, cerebrovascular disease and spinal cord injury, etc. This review clarifies the protective effects of proanthocyanidins on CNS injury and its related mechanisms.
