Abstract:
Objective: To evaluate a treatment approach for chronic osteomyelitis. Methods: From May 1997 to August 2004,46 patients with chronic osteomyelitis were involved, 31 males and 15 females, aging from 17 to 68 years old, with an average of 36 years old. We took a multi-disciplinary approach, including operative treatment, radiotherapy and antibiotic therapy. (Result: The) longest follow-up was 8 years, with a mean follow-up of 51 months. Among these patients, no evidence of relapse was noted in 46 patients, 6 patients relapsed 3 months -5 years after treatment. The 5-year survival without relapse is 86.96%.Conclusion: Our multi-disciplinary approach can improve the clinical outcome of chronic osteomyelitis.
