Abstract:
Objective To analyze the causes of death in elderly patients with cardiovascular diseases admitted to our hospital.
Methods Causes of death in 1 920 elderly patients admitted to our hospital from 1976 to 2011 were analyzed according to their medical records.
Results The average age of the 1 920 elderly patients was (81.48±7.64) years. The proportion of patients with their age < 60 years, being 60~70 years, being 70~80 years and > 80 years was 0.95%, 4.94%, 30.67% and 63.44%, respectively.The proportion of male and female patients was 95.94% and 4.06%, respectively. The top 3 causes of death were tumor(705 cases), cardiovascular disease(328 cases) and respiratory disease(307 cases). The primary diseases leading to death were coronary heart disease(45%), sudden cardiac death(33%) and heart failure(12%).
Conclusion Death usually occurs in advance-aged patients with cardiovascular diseases in our hospital. The main causes of death are tumor, cardiovascular disease and respiratory disease. The primary diseases leading to death are coronary heart disease, sudden cardiac death and heart failure.
