Abstract:
Objective To study the reasons for the complications of minimally invasive transforaminal lumbar interbody fusion(MIS-TLIF) under straight view and their countermeasures.
Methods One hundred and five patients who underwent MIS-TLIF in our hospital from January 2008 to July 2011 were retrospectively analyzed.Their operation time, intra-operative blood loss, postoperative ambulation time, and complications were recorded and assessed according to their postoperative radiographic images and clinical outcomes.
Results The patients were followed up for 12-30 months (mean 16 months).Among the 7 patients (6.67%)with complications, dural cyst rupture due to decompression and removal of pulpiform nucleus, nerve injury due to intra-operative traction, superficial incision infection, and inter-vertebral cage subsidence due to osteoporosis occurred in 3 (2.86%), 1(0.95%), 1(0.95%), and 2 (1.90%), respectively.
Conclusion Complications of MIS-TLIF are mainly correlated with the features of MISTLIF, learning curves, and indications for MIS-TLIF.Operation under straight view can reduce the development of complications.
