Abstract:
Objective To improve the clinical diagnosis of urinary tract infection(UTI) by analyzing its clinical features in patients with fever of unknown origin(FUO).
Methods Clinical data about UTI patients with FUO admitted to Department of Fever-Related Diseases in our hospital from February 2011 to December 2012 were retrospectively reviewed.
Results UTI was usually manifested as intermittent fever in FUO patients. Abnormal urine routine test was more common in females than in males(
P=0.027 1)and positive urine culture was more frequent in females and those with their age ≥ 60 years than in males and those their age ≤ 60 years.
Conclusion UTI is usually manifested as intermittent fever in FUO patients. Repeated routine urine test and urine culture contribute to its diagnosis.
