Abstract:
Objective To study the effect of endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV) on hydrocephalus.
Methods Clinical data about 30 hydrocephalus patients who underwent ETV in our hospital from December 2010 to December 2011 were retrospectively analyzed.
Results The patients were followed up for 12-24 months. Of the 30 patients, 11(36.7%) had an excellent response, 14(46.7%) had a good response, and 5(16.7%) had no response to ETV, with a total efficacy of 83.3%.
Conclusion ETV is a minimally invasive, safe and effective procedure for hydrocephalus, and is thus the frst choice of treatment for midbrain aqueduct stenosis or occlusion due to hydrocephalus.
