Abstract:
Objective To determine the clinical outcomes of keratoprosthesis (KPro) implantation and investigate its infuencing factors.
Methods Clinical data about 99 patients underwent KPro implantation in our hospital from December 2005 to December 2015 were retrospectively collected, and postoperative visual acuity(VA) and its infuencing factors were analyzed.
Results All cases were followed up for 1-10 years. Of them, 35 patients obtained better vision (≥0.3) with incidence rate of 35.4%, 30 patients obtained lower vision (0.05-0.3) with incidence rate of 30.3%, and 34 patients blinded (< 0.05) with incidence rate of 34.3%. VA was lower in patients with length of postoperative period ≥3 years and postoperative complication occurrence ≥2 times.
Conclusion s KPro implantation is an effective treatment for the severe corneal blindnees. Postoperative complication and the length of postoperative period are the main risk factors of lower VA.
