Abstract:
Objective To investigate the treatment of non-puerperal mastitis.
Methods Clinical data about patients diagnosed as nonpuerperal mastitis in our hospital from January 2016 to October 2017 were collected, and their cure rate, recurrence rate and course of treatment were recorded and summarized.
Results Of the 84 patients included in our study, 58 patients received surgical excision treatment (69%), whose breast mass showed no acute inflammatory reaction with clear boundary and the tumor size< 5 cm. The other 26 patients (31%) presented with obvious inflammation or abscess, ulceration, with tumor size> 5 cm, and could not be treated by surgery. Of the 58 patients with excision treatment, 54 patients were cured, 6 recurred with the recurrence rate of 10.3%.The 2 recurred patients were cured at the end of follow-up. Of the 26 patients without excision treatment, 12 patients were healed without recurrence, lesions shrinked in 6 patients and did not changed in 8 patients.
Conclusion For patients with nonpuerperal mastitis, excision treatment is needed if there is surgical indication. However, for patients with obvious acute inflammatory reaction or patients who are unable to undergo surgical treatment temporarily, debridement and dressing or follow-up observation is feasible.
