Abstract: Objective To analyze the health status of pilots after the physical examination for transition to high performance gunship. Methods Clinical data about 63 pilots who were hospitalized in the Airforce Medical Center or the Airforce Hospital of Southern Theater Command from January 2011 to November 2019 after the physical examination for transition to high performance gunship were reviewed.The disqualification rate of these 63 pilots and other pilots of helicopters hospitalized during the same period were compared. Results A total of 63 pilots were rehospitalized after physical examination for transition to high performance gunship.Of the 63 pilots,the diseases had no relationship with abnormal findings in previous physical examination in 57 cases.In the other 6 pilots.the diseases were related to previous condition;they were granted qualification for high performance gunship because their abnormalities were very slight or they have no complaints during the physical examination.Fifty-one pilots returned to flight after treatments,and 9 of them were still temporarily grounded due to prolonged diseases courses,while 3 of them were permanently grounded.The disqualification rate of the 63 pilots of high performance gunship was significantly lower than that of pilots of other helicopters (4.76% vs 18.31%,P=0.007). Conclusion Most of the pilots selected according to current criteria for transition to high performance gunship have good health status.
