Abstract: Objective To observe the clinical effect of inner heating dry needle on chronic nonspecific neck pain. Methods From January 2017 to December 2018,60 patients diagnosed as chronic nonspecific neck pain (NCNP) in Hainan Hospital of Chinese PLA General Hospital were randomly divided into treatment group and control group.Patients in the treatment group (n=30) were treated with inner heating dry needle therapy,while patients in the control group (n=30) were treated with thermomagnetic therapy.The pain visual analogue scale (VAS) and the neck disability index scale (NDI) were used to evaluate the effect at 2 weeks and 3 months after treatment. Results There was no significant difference in age,gender,BMI,VAS and NDI scores between the two groups before treatment (all P>0.05).Two way repeated-measures ANOVA showed VAS and NDI scores in the treatment group differed significantly between the three time points (VAS,5.3±1.4 vs 2.0±1.2 and 1.7±0.8;NDI,14.6±4.6 vs 8.1±3.9 and 7.7±3.6;all P<0.05),and significantly lower than those in the control group at 2 weeks and at 3 months after treatment (all P<0.05).The VAS and NDI scores in the control group decreased significantly at 2 weeks after treatment (VAS,4.8±1.6 vs 3.3±1.3;NDI,15.9±4.4 vs 11.9±3.7;P<0.05,respectively);but increased to (4.9±1.5) and (16.1±4.4) at 3 months,respectively,with no significant improvement when compared with before treatment (P>0.05). Conclusion Inner heating dry needle therapy can relieve pain and improve cervical function in patients with chronic nonspecific neck pain,and the long-term effect is better when compared with conventional physiotherapy.
