Abstract:
Objective To examine the effect of revised version of Ba Duan Jin exercise on the physical fitness of soldiers.
Methods In October 2019,we recruited 45 male soldiers from a troop in Beijing to participate our training program.The program was divided into 2 stages:stage 1 was for regular training program (4 weeks),and stage 2 was for revised version of Ba Duan Jin exercise (4 weeks).The soldiers' physical fitness test results were compared between the two stages.Another 20 solidiers with chronic diseases or injuries were also invited to practice revised version of Ba Duan Jin for 4 weeks,and their symptom improvement was recorded.
Results After 4 weeks of regular training,there was little improvement in physical fitness,and only the number of pull-up increased by 1.07±1.75 with significant difference (
P=0.000).Then,after 4 weeks of Ba Duan Jin exercise,there were statistically significant increases in 3-mile military run,30 m shuttle run,and pull-up (all
P<0.05),and the improvements in stage 2 were significantly higher than those in stage 1 (3-mile military run,0.43±0.34min
vs-0.02±0.19min);30 m shuttle run,0.33±0.22s
vs0.02±0.21s;pull-up,2.60±1.24
vs1.07±1.75;
P<0.05,respectively).The subjective improvement rate of symptoms in 20 soldiers suffering from chronic diseases or injuries reached 65% after 4 weeks' practice,and 55% of them felt obvious improvement.
Conclusion The revised version of Ba Duan Jin exercise has a favourable effect on the physical fitness of soldiers,and improves the condition of chronic diseases,which is worthy of popularization in the army.
