Abstract:
Objective To study the clinical manifestations, endoscopic and pathologic features of rectal carcinoid tumor, and the selection of its therapy.
Methods Clinical data about 59 cases of pathology-confirmed rectal carcinoid tumor were retrospectively analyzed with its literature reviewed.
Results No typical clinical manifestations were found in these rectal carcinoid tumor patients.Endoscopy showed polypoid or yellowish submucosal tumors.Of the 59 patients,55 received colonoscopy treatment,2 underwent anoscopy local resection, and 1 received chemotherapy after anoscopy local resection.Fifty patients were followed up during which no recurrence or metastasis was found.
Conclusion Early rectal carcinoid is short of typical clinical manifestations.Colonoscopy and pathologic examination play an important role in its early diagnosis. Its treatment depends on its size, infiltration depth, and lymph node or distal metastasis.
