Abstract:
Objective To study the clinical application of tumor interstitial fluid rachytherapy(TIFB) in treatment of cerebral glioma.
Methods Clinical data about 17 glioma patients treated with TIFB from January 2006 to May 2008 were summarized.
Results Clinical outcomes of the patients were assessed according to the WHO solid tumor scales. The mean survival time of the 17 patients was 22 months after treatment.CR,PR,SD and PD were found in 5(29.4%),7(41.2%),3(17.6%) and 2(11.8%) out of them, respectively. The 2-and 3-year survival rate for them was 52.9% and 47.0%,respectively.Radiology showed that 5 out of the 17 patients were completely cured. The common complication was hypothyroidism.
Conclusion TIFB for tumor cells can achieve a rather good clinical outcome of glioma by pumping a micro-volume of liquid 131I into it at a fixed speed through the modified Ommaya reservior using the stereo-directional technique during the refreshing of tumor interstitial fluid.
