Abstract:
Objective: To investigate the expression of endothelin-1in astrocytes in the human brain with cerebral hem┐ orrhage.
Methods: The SP immunohistochemical method and a polyclonal antiserum were used.Autopsy material was obtained from 8cases of cerebral hemorrhage,5cases without brain diseases.
Results: Endothelin-1was expressed in numerous reactive astrocytes in the human brain surrounding the hematoma.But this occurred in only exceptional astrocytes of controls.
Conclusion: The results suggest that endothelin-1might play an essential role in the pathogenesis of edema formation and ischemia injury after cerebral hemorrhage.
