Abstract: According to the review of literature we found that fissured tongue is not a rare disease with an incidence of 1—5%. There is usually no trouble in treating mild cases, but it is often difficult to reat the severe ones because of inflammation occuring recurrently and irritation of the tongue leading to inference with eating, drinking and speaking. During the past two years, we have attempted to treat 5 patients with severe fissured tongue disorder, which has not responded to medication, by means of focus excision and tongue plasty. All 5 cases have been successfully cured, followed up for 10—24 months, and showed disappearance of symptoms, normal morphology, sense of taste and movement of the tongue are normal. The pathology alterations, operative design, surgical method of this condition were discussed comprehensively.
