Abstract:
Objective: To investigate the changes of triggered EMG by stimulation guinea pigs facial nerve at normal and injured states.
Methods: The EMG of facal muscle was triggered by stimulation the facial nerve at different distances. Then a model of facial nerve injury was made by stretch, half cutting or total cutting the nerve into two parts. The intensity of stimulus was compared and analyzed.
Results: It showed that the stimulation thresholds increased with the increasing of the injury degree and had a marked statistical difference (
P<0.01).
Conclusion: The triggered EMG induced by facial nerve stimulation is a safe and sensitive method during IOM and the stimulating intensity may predict the outcome of facial nerve injury.
