Abstract:
In This paper,40 eederly patients (mean age 75.5 years) with respiratory infectionsmostly caused by cocci,bacilli and mixed microorganisms,treated with oral cefixime were reported.The dosages were classified into four groups:100mg bid,tid and 200mg bid, tid,for 7 14days.The results showed the overall clinical success rate was 87.5%(35 of 40) and the microbiologicaleradication rate was 86.0%(37 43).It was found that efficacy with dose of 200mg cefixime bidor Tid,was wuperior to that of other foses. The overall incidence of adverse effects was 5%(2 Of 40)for cefixime-treated patients.One patients sho- wed GPT and GOT slightly increased, and oneshowed rash at the face.These episodes usually resolved without me dication when the treatmentwas withdrawn.three patients with chronic renai insufficiency had no evidence of FurtherDeterioration After Treatment.cefixime Has These characteristics,as well as a longer half life andfew adverse effects and is also readilv tolerated.so,cefixime is a suitable alternative to currentwidely rsed antibiotics.The study showed cefixime to be an effective,Byoader,Safe,And Convenientnew oral Third-generation cephem antibiotic for the treatment of acute mild of moderate respiratorytract infections in the elderly,especially with outpatients.
