Abstract:
We have applied the EEA stapler device for the gastro-esophageal anastomosis in 290 patients with carcinoma of esophagus and cardia between August, 1980 and October, 1983.There were 229 males and 61 female, ranging from 28 to 72 years of age. 200 patients suffered from carcrinoma of esophagus and 90 patients from carcinoma of cardia.Among these 290 patients there were 5 anastomotic leakages (1.7%). 10 patients developed postoperative fibrotic stricture (3.4%). The most possible cause of anastomotic leakage in 5 cases was increased tension at the anastomotic site. The etiology of postoperative fibrotic stricture and the possible preventive measure were discussesed in the article. It was concluded that the EEA stapler device for gastro-esophageal anastomosis is better than the handsewn one and it’s wide use seems to be iustified.
