Abstract:
The trace elements in total diets of 11 different ingredients of elderly tube-fed patients were determined. 17 elderly tube-fed hospitalized patients were investigated with regard to serum Zn, Ou, Fe and whole blood Se in order to study the intake of trace elements and nutriture in elderly tube-fed patients. The result showed that the contents of Fe, Mn and Cr were within the range of Safe and Adequate Daily Dietary Intake(SADDI) values. The contents of Cu in part of total diets were lower. However, the levels of Zn, Mo and Se which play an important role in human health were lower than that of low limit of SADDI. In response to the lower intake, serum Zn, Cu and whole blood Se were lower in 17 elderly tube-fed patients, compared with that in controls. It is suggested that appropriate improvement of the ingredients of total diets to meet the need of trace elements of patients is often neccessary.
