Abstract:
The transplantation of cryopreserved human fetal pancreatic islet in the form of 10—13 fetal pancreases was performed in 11 IDDM patients(7 males, 4 females, aged 22—41 years with history of 2—10years), intraperitoneally in 5 and intramuscularly in 6 with 10—13 fetal pancreases. No immunosuppressive agent was used. Before the transplantation and 1, 2, 6 months after implantation, the clinical symtoms, blood glucose, HbAl, 24-hour urine glucose, OKT4, OKT8 and daily insulin requirment were evaluated respectively. The resuls showed that after transplantation there was no metabolic eltectand the daily insulin requirment was not signicantl reduced. Thus, the discrepancy between the viability of deep-frozen human pancreatic islet in vitro and that in IDDM patient remains to be elucidated further.
