Abstract:
In this paper, the anticonvulsive effect of the crude scorpion venom of Buthus artensii Karsch (BMKV)were reported. Pentylenetrazle (PTZ), strychnide, picrotoxin, emicarbazide, and maximal electroshock induced seizures were investigated in mice. The mice eceived normal saline served as controls. We found that BMKV had the protective effect against onvulsion induced by PTZ and strychnine. At the same time, we also revealed that the BMKV had edative effect on mice spontaneous movement. Therefore, as shown in our experiments, the nticonvulsant action of the whole scorpion as documented in traditional chinese medicine, may ave a combined action of anticonvulsive and sedative effects.
