Abstract:
Objective: We aim to investigate the morphologic and histologic characteristics of coronary artery after balloon over stretch in Chinese mini swine and to establish restenosis model after intracoronary artery intervention in Chinese mini swine.
Methods: Sixteen Chinese mini swine underwent coronary balloon over stretch to LAD and CLX. The animals were sacrificed at three and thirty days following the initial procedure. Cross sections were stained hematoxylin eosin, Masson’s trichrome, and Verhoef-van Giesen. Maximal intimal thickness, neointima area, percent stenosis, external elastic perimeter and internal elstic perimeter were determined and compared between the two groups. Immunohistochemistry was used to determine the distribution of α-smooth muscle actin positive cells.
Results: There was a great increase in neointimal area, maximal neointima thickness and percent area stenosis, and there was a great decrease in the external and internal elastic perimeter 30 days after coronary artery balloon injury. Inflammatory cells were observed in adventitia 3 days after the injury. α-smooth muscle actin positive cells and fibrosis in adventitia were significantly increased 30 days after the injury.
Conclusion: We establish restenosis model after coronary artery intervention in Chinese mini swine.
