Abstract:
Curcumin is a yellow pigment extracted from plant Curcuma longa. the present study observed its effects on the activity of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and the level of lipid peroxidas in mouse plasma, brain and liver. The results showed that, when curcumin administered 20 and 40 mg/kg.d-1 intraperitoneally for seven days, the levels of malonaldehyde (MDA) in mouse plasma and brain were significantly decreased, and the activities of SOD in plasma, brain and liver were significantly increased. These effects were in a dose dependent manner. The results indicate that the antiperoxydant effect of curcumin may be partialy related to its enhancement on the acticity of SOD.
