Abstract:
Thirty cases of gastric carcinomas were studied by radioligand binding assay for determing epider-mal growth factor receptor(EGFR).The difference of EGFR expression in malignant and normal tissues andthe difference of EGFR expression among several pathological types of the carcinoma were evaluated. The re-sults showed that the level of EGFR in the cancer specimens, was significantly higher than that in the normalspecimens,10.36±2.21 fmol/mg protein vs.4.22±1.80 fmol/mg protein(
P<0.01).The constant of disso-ciation (Kd) of cancer specimen was higher than that of normal tissues,2.25±0.68 vs,0.74±0.56 nmol(
P<0.01).Taking different histological types into account, the EGFR in poorly-differentiated adenocarcinomasshowed a tendency of increased level compared with that in well-differentiated adenocarcinomas, but there wasno statistical significance,The results suggest that EGFR in neoplastic tissues have a higher affinity to EGFRand much more active biological reaction takes place in the gastric neoplasm under the same levels of EGFR. The high level of EGFR in gastric carcinoma should play an important role in the developement and progressof gastric carcinomas. However, the relationship between the expression of EGFR and clinical prognosis ofgastric carcinoma need to be further studied in the future.
