Abstract:
Objective To study the correlation between cellular phone use and risk of parotid gland malignancy.
Methods 947 eligible cases with parotid gland tumors admitted to our hospital from 1993 to 2009 were identified.540 participants of them were interviewed,137 malignancy cases of whom served as an experimental group,403 benign cases of whom served as a control group.Their use of cellular phone was investigated using questionnaires.OR value for the correlation between cellular phone use and risk of parotid gland malignancy was calculated by Logistic regression analysis.
Results The risk of developing parotid gland malignancy was 1.503-fold higher in patients who regularly used cellular phone than in those who did not use or used it for no more than 6 months(OR=1.503,95% confidence interval CI=1.002-2.255).The risk of developing parotid gland tumor was 2.122-fold and 1.795-fold higher respectively in patients who used cellular phone for 181-594h(OR=2.122,95% CI=1.158-3.887) and over 594h(OR=1.795,95% CI=1.031-3.127) than in those did not use or used it for no more than 6 months.
Conclusion Over-long time of using cellular phone can raise the risk of parotid gland malignancy.
