Abstract: Stenosis of the internal carotid artery usually manifests itself in symptoms and signs of ischemia of tissues within its disribution.No report on this subject has been encountered in this country.This article reported 21 cases,among which 20 cases were confirmed by unilateral or bilateral carotid arteriography,and another was shown to be carotid occlusion arteriographically,but proved to be stenosis during operation.In these 21 patients,simple stenosis occurred in 10,stenosis complicated by arterial occlusion in 7,that complicated by arterial tortuosity in 3.In another patient stenosis and arterial tortuosity were associated with occlusion of the siphon section.On the basis of the clinical analysis,the incidence,etiology,clinical manifestations,diagnosis,and therapy of this condition were discussed.
