Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the diagnostic and treatment for extraadrenal retroperioneal paraganliomas. Methods: 34 cases extraadrenal retroperioneal paraganliomas diagnosed and treated between Jan. 1992 and Jan.2001 were rerviewed. Results: The diagnosis of extraadrenal retroperioneal paraganliomas was confirmed on surgery and pathologic studies in all. Mast patients were admitted with pain or a mass,and eleven of 34 tumors were functional. The accuracy rates of localization B- ultrasonography, computerized tomography and magnetic resonance imaging were 100%. All tumours were completely resected.Operative mortality rate was 2.6%. In 26 cases（79.4%）, the extraadrenal retroperioneal paraganliomas was benign and in the other 8 the tumor was malignant（20.6%）. Conclusions: Pre-,peri- and post-operative management were of prime importance. Surgical management was the only means for cure in the disease.
