Abstract:
One hundred and fifty patients with periampullary carcinoma were treated in the years from 1958 to 1984.Among these patients 89 were males and 61 were females.The age ranged from 32 to 86 years,with an average of 55.4 Years,One hundred and twentyseven were treated surgitcally,the operative rate being 84.67%.In surgical group,pancreatoduodenectomy was performed in 59 patients,therefore the tresectable rate being 39.33%;42 patients underwent internal drainage;19 patients external drainage;and 7 patients the exploration only.The remaining 23 patients were treated medically.The mean survival months in the radical resection group,internal drainage group,external of patients drainage group,exploratory group and nonoperative group was 53.05±10.51,10.52±2.03,11.77±3.49,7.01±3.44,and 2.96±0.94 respectively.The fiveyear survival rate of radical resection in the series was 30.30%,while the results of palliative surgical procedures or medical management only were disappointing.The mortality rate of the radical resection was 11.86%.The ways to reduce serious operative complication and mortality rate were discussed.
