Abstract:
Objective To observe the effect of bone marrow stromal cells(BMSCs) transplantation on expression of cyclooxygenase-2(COX-2) and vascular endothelial growth factor(VEGF) protein in rats following spinal cord injury(SCI).
Methods Adult rats were randomly divided into group A(sham operation group),group B(DMEM control group),and group C(BMSCs transplantation group).A rat spinal cord compression injury model was established.Rats in groups B and C were injected with BMSCs or DMEM after SCI.Expression of COX-2 and VEGF protein in rats following SCI was detected by Western blot.
Results The expression level of COX-2 and VEGF protein was low in group A.The expression level of COX-2 and VEGF protein was significantly higher in group B than in group A and in group C than in group B(
P<0.01,
P<0.05).
Conclusion BMSCs transplantation can up-regulate the expression of COX-2 and VEGF protein in rats following SCI.
